The Trip

For various reasons, the main one being life is too short, we have decided to embark on a year long round the world trip. Far from the traditional gap year activity of backpacking and staying in hostels, we’d like to experience living in a few places for a longer period of time rather than dashing from place to place. The idea here is that usually when you visit somewhere you find yourself trying to fit in as many places as possible, but without anytime to relax and ‘live’ in a place. We’ll be renting apartments along the way of decent quality but still within our strict budget.

I am writing sitting in our kitchen of our rented house in Antequera, Spain, not worrying about the next site to see, enjoying the sunshine at the end of November in a homely place that is costing far less to live in than our flat in Manchester and I know we have made a brilliant choice. I urge everyone to follow their dreams and don’t put of now what you’ll regret not doing in the future. I know we are in a privileged position for this trip but the main reason we are doing it is because we have planned it for a couple of years and worked towards out goal. I hope you enjoy keeping updated with our travels, and don’t find my updates too much of a pretentious bore.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw of the bowlines. Sail away from the safe habor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. EXPLORE. DREAM. DISCOVER.” Mark Twain.
