The Beginning

This was quite a roller coaster of a ride. Aside from our ‘secret’ wedding, we finished our jobs (Chris on a Sabbatical, Sarah had to quit), got married and prepared our beloved flat to be rented out – all whilst planning our trip.

So on the 24th September, 2009 we were married in a small ceremony at Mitton Hall, Whalley, Lancashire. Following this we had a honeymoon on Chaaya Island, in the beautiful Maldives where we were fortunate enough to get an upgrade to an over the water suite with a separate beautiful restaurant. This is living! – but not at a sustainable cost. Our trip will me on a much tighter budget.

Following our return we started to prepare the flat to be rented out and move our stuff out. The plan was that Chris would also start putting in some serious work on his websites. Preparing the flat took a hell of a lot longer than we were expecting so we had quite a few late nights and barely any website business attended too. The end result was the flat in fantastic condition and it rented out just a week before we left. This was a bit of a panic as we needed to have a tenant to cover the costs to make the trip possible.

During this month of massive change we also booked our round-the-world tickets. The first part of our trip is to Spain and the flights there are covered by a simple Easyjet fare. The round the world tickets are an amazingly complicated thing to organise. Where do you go where you can go anywhere in the world?, and how do you keep it all on budget? After days of research and planning we booked our tickets and our trip will be as follows (dates are flexible but it gives you a rough idea).

Nov ’09 – Dec ’09 Anteq

uera, Spain

Dec ’09 – Jan ’09 Lymm & Oswaldtwistle, UK (home for Christmas)
Jan 18th ’10 – Apr – Buenos Aires, Argentina
Apr – May –  Sydney, Australia
Jun – Jul – Melbourne, Australia
Jul – Aug – South Island, New Zeland
Aug – Sep – Auckland, North Island, New Zeland
Sep – Oct – Bali, Indonesia
Oct 2010 – HOME

The great thing about our tickets is that we can change the dates, but not the routing, for free. This is all covered in our Oneworld explorer round the world ticket where we will be covering almost 29,000 miles (I may do a well researched post about carbon emissions in the future!).

So that is the wedding done, the flat rented, the trip booked. Onwards!
